Maleficent: Mistress of Evil directed by Joachim Rønning is a ghastly bleak thrown-out piece of the very famous fairytale Sleeping Beauty... It's another Disney fantasy where the light wins over the darkness but here Maleficent is the light and she is the darkness too... Philosophically, Good and bad are just a perception, it depends just on from which side you are looking at...Maleficent would be the perfect example of this. The Witch who puts a 16 year old princess to a never ending sleep... She must be evil right ? But we saw what happened when the first movie came out in 2014. Here the plot takes another level. Elle Fanning plays the Sleeping beauty and she is a thing of beauty to look at. Adorable!!!Michelle Pfeiffer who plays the queen is stunning and she does it with such an evil perfection that every time you see her on screen , you would wonder what's this woman up to.Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays an interesting character, sadly gets a very little screen space. But his scenes with Angelina are splendid.
Maleficent 2 has everything, action, adventure, mystery, comedy, and even it's own sad moment too. It really shows how Maleficent's relationship with Aurora and Dival had evolved. The characters were very well developed, and the animation has definitely improved since the first movie. The creators of this movie were so creative with designing the look of the other types of horned fairies, like the rainforest ones with their rainbow wings and the ice ones with their snow-white horns. It really showed how much work the animators put into making the characters look real
Loved Elle Fanning in this a lot more than the first Maleficent. Wonderful storyline that felt like an old, classic tale, yet still contained relevant themes. It has many side characters and side storylines, which I liked for the most part. Stunning colors, effects, costuming and cinematography. Good balance of comedic relief and drama. Intense battle scenes, but little/no gore. Probably a bit scary for kids younger than 7. Depends on the kid! A couple of loose ends and plot holes but I don't mind. I was entertained, and all I can think about is the final dress Aurora wears. (!!!!!) gorgeous! All in all I thought it was a little lighter than the first Maleficent, and more entertaining!
